School of Business - Microsoft Excel Certification

Microsoft Excel Certification is an alternate option for students who feel that they already have the knowledge and skills taught in BUS 241 Applied Business Modeling (or BUS 195 Spreadsheets and Problem Solving). BUS 241 Applied Business Modeling (C- or higher) or Microsoft Excel Certification is a required class as a part of the Pre-Business Core. Students in earlier catalog years (2019 or earlier) can take the Excel Certification or BUS 241 (C- or better) in lieu of BUS 195 (C or better) or the Computer Proficiency Exam. BUS 195 and the Computer Proficiency Exam are no longer offered. 

The certification is the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Excel Associate 2019, exam code MO-200. The School of Business will also accept the 2016 version of the exam if it is available. The cost of the exam is $100. Students can also purchase a voucher with a retake option. This will redirect you to the Certiport Authorized Testing Center Locator webpage, which will help you locate a testing site near you. Please note that USM is not set up as a testing site at this time.

Anyone taking the exam should forward a copy of their scores to the School of Business at sbinfo@maine.edu.
