EDU 442 - Professional Seminar in Teaching The course prepares undergraduates pursuing general education teacher certification for the internship experience and assesses their professional readiness. Students employ equity frameworks and other insights from prior coursework to consider school culture, student needs, and ways of respectfully entering into a local community and inhabiting the teacher role. The course builds students’ familiarity with the certification standards, instructional coaching tools, and procedures used to develop professional competencies. Emphasis is placed on forging a robust support network through opportunities for collaborative and constructive relationships with peers, host teachers, and program faculty and staff. The course includes a school-based field experience.
Prerequisite(s): Completion of EDU 222 , SED 235 , and 75 credits in Elementary Education major, or Secondary Teacher Education Pathway, or Accelerated Pathway; or with program permission. All students must complete and submit proof of a background check (or have one on file) prior to enrolling in the course. Co-requisite(s): Credits: 3
