SWO 365 - Foundations of Social Justice in Social Work

Through an interdisciplinary critical lens, this course examines societal structural systems of privilege, power, and oppression. This course will familiarize students with the historical context and theoretical frameworks of economic, racial, social, and environmental (in)justices. Effective relationship-building provides the foundation for creating belonging and organizing for change. The course develops students’ awareness of their own values, assumptions, biases, and privileges to develop cultural humility, and form and strengthen relationships across differences. This course satisfies the Culture, Power, and Equity requirement of the Core. It is also an approved SOJ and WGS elective.

Prerequisite(s): (or corequisite) SWO 201 or permission of BSW program coordinator.
