ESP 480 - Environmental Science and Policy Capstone


ESP 480 is the capstone course for all ESP students, in which you will apply both science and policy perspectives to pressing environmental problems in Maine. As a class, we will choose a relevant topic to explore over the course of the semester. For example, the class may focus on topics such as: PFAS in Maine drinking water; Responses to climate change impacts on Maine’s coast; Exploring the impacts and options for the Gorham Connector; and more. Each week, a pair of students will be responsible for find relevant academic journal articles related to the course topic and leading a structured discussion with their peers about the article. By the end of the semester, all students will be versed in the ecological, social, economic and political aspects of the topic.

Prerequisite(s): Senior standing, ESP 280 ENG 100  or equivalent for all students; for students admitted Fall 2021 or later: ENG 102  or equivalent (may be concurrent), or non-degree student; OR permission of instructor.
