ANT 192 - Introduction to Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) This course is an introduction to the field of Native American and Indigenous Studies. This course provides students with foundational language to talk about and begin introductory conversations about topics relevant to American Indian/Native American peoples in North America. Topics discussed: genocide inflicted on Native American and Indigenous peoples (historically and currently); the United States as stolen Indian land, waters, and ecologies; relationships with/by Native Peoples; Native and Indigenous arts; Native and Indigenous values; Native and Indigenous lifeways and ecologies; Native and Indigenous spiritualities; social and political institutions established by and maintained through Native and Indigenous nations/communities; current work by Native American and Indigenous Peoples to get their stolen lands returned and sovereignty/self-determination honored.
