Basic Course

ROTC Basic Course is a series of elective courses that teach you basic military skills and the fundamentals of Army leadership and the Army in general. You can take courses within the Army ROTC Basic Course without a military commitment. Basic Courses are normally taken during your first two years of college as elective courses. The Basic Course requirement consists of one lecture course and a lab each semester.

Advanced Course

ROTC Advanced Course is a series of elective courses that help you become proficient at basic small-unit tactics and gain experience in team organization, planning and decision-making. Entering the Advanced Course requires a commitment to serve as an Officer in the U.S. Army after you graduate.

Other ROTC Program Courses

In addition to the Basic and Advanced Courses, Army ROTC offers a History of the Army course which is open to all students. The Officer Internship offers current ROTC cadets an opportunity to learn through fieldwork in a military-type unit.

In cooperation with the UNH ROTC program, the following opportunities are also available.
- ROTC Basic Camp, Fort Knox, Kentucky
  Cadet Summer Training “Basic Camp” is an intense four-week, non-contractual training program that is an introduction to Army life and leadership training for the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. It takes place at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Basic Camp is designed for college students typically between their sophomore and junior years and required for those who have not taken any required ROTC Basic Courses or who have not previously attended military Basic Training. Basic Camp aims to motivate and qualify Cadets for entry into the advanced phase of the ROTC program. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can take part in the ROTC program as a third-year student (MS III) in the four-year program. Student incurs no military obligation; program offers opportunities to earn a two-year scholarship and qualifies students to take MIS 401.
- ROTC Advanced Camp, Fort Knox, Kentucky (required to commission)
  The ROTC Cadet “Advanced Camp” is held at Fort Knox, Kentucky and is the most important training event for an Army ROTC Cadet. This course is generally attended during the summer between junior and senior year. Every Army ROTC Cadet in the nation must attend this course to be commissioned as an Army officer. The 30-day course incorporates a wide range of subjects designed to develop and evaluate leadership ability. The challenges are rigorous and demanding, both mentally and physically. Advanced Camp tests intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and stamina. These challenges provide a new perspective on an individual’s ability to perform exacting tasks and to make difficult decisions in demanding situations. Prerequisites: Army ROTC Basic Course, MIS 401 and MIS 402.
