Athletic Coaching Minor
Return to: Minors
This minor is designed to prepare students for coaching athletes at the youth, recreational, middle and secondary school, sports club, and intercollegiate and professional levels. The curriculum includes an introduction to the organization and administration of athletics as well as practical work coaching in an athletic setting at all levels. Attention is also given to the prevention and care of the most common injuries occurring in athletic programs. The minor helps to prepare students to begin a career in coaching with a solid base of philosophy, sports specific knowledge, and practical experiences. Students have the opportunity to learn first-hand from seasoned coaches and then move on to apply their knowledge through field experiences and internships with local programs. Students may take courses as electives or as part of the certificate program. For more information about this minor, please contact Michael Keller (michael.keller@maine.edu).
