Information Technology, B.S.

The B.S. degree in information technology is designed to prepare individuals to develop, manage, and maintain computer and network systems in organizations. Areas of study include: organizational issues and information systems, application technologies, software methods and technologies, systems and network infrastructure, web development, and cybersecurity.

The program welcomes students from various fields who recognize the need for technology expertise. This includes high school graduates, students from community colleges, and prospective students with a deep knowledge in the field.

Program Requirements


Bachelor of Science in Information Technology


Minimum number of credits required for the degree: 120

COS or CYB or ITT Electives (18 credits)


General Electives (10 credits)

Departmental Requirements: Technical Courses


Technical courses within the major differ depending on the community college curriculum but are fulfilled by courses taken as part of an associate degree in information technology plus selected courses at USM. Competency standards identified by the Association for Computing Machinery and articulation agreements between the schools are used to determine course equivalencies.
