Accelerated Graduate Pathway to Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering (UMaine)

This program provides students in the Electrical Engineering major at the University of Southern Maine (USM) the opportunity for favorable admissions and dual-enrollment opportunities with the University Maine Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering degree.

Program Requirements

In order to participate in the accelerated pathway, a USM ELE student must:

  1. Have completed the following courses by the end of junior year.

  1. Complete the internal departmental application to the Accelerated ELE option at the University of Maine in the fall or very early spring semester of 3rd year of study (deadline: February 15).

  2. If accepted to the Accelerated ELE option at UMaine, take up to 9 credits of 400/500 level USM ELE or EGN courses (3 credits of which MUST be at the 500-level). These will count toward both the BS and MS degrees.

  3. Complete and submit an application to the UMaine Graduate School Electrical Engineering program.

  4. Once admitted to the Master’s program, develop a program of study which includes all courses counted toward the MS degree. Get this program of study approved by the ECE Graduate Coordinator at UMaine.

Up to 6 credits of additional ELE or EGN graduate courses (500-level) can be taken at USM toward the MS degree, provided that those 6 credits do not also count toward the USM BS degree. These may be taken by the student at USM either before or after earning the BS degree.
