Music Education Accelerated Graduate Pathway (MM)

The Accelerated Graduate Pathway (AGP) to the master’s program in Music Education allows students to begin taking graduate-level courses as they complete upper-division coursework in the undergraduate music education major. Students who meet undergraduate progress standards will have their graduate application fee waived and gain automatic admission to the MM in Music Education program. 

Requirements at the undergraduate level: 

  • Maintain a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Successfully complete all coursework required of the Bachelor’s in Music Education.

  • Successfully complete all coursework required for Admission to Upper Division in Music Education prior to enrolling in any AGP coursework.

  • Declare the AGP prior to enrolling in any 500-level courses. 

Required Courses (12 credits) 

  • MUH 520 - Seminar in Music History

  • MUT 530 - Seminar in Music Theory

  • MUE 550 - Curriculum and Assessment

  • MUE 552 - Research in Music Education 

Must earn a grade of B- or better in each.

Admission to the AGP for Music Education: 

  • Declare the AGP in Music Education after the completion of 75 credits (Semester 5). 

  • Apply to the MM in Music Education program via the standard graduate admission application.

  • Only the 12 credits of music courses noted above may be completed at the undergraduate level. If grade requirements are not met, students will be required to repeat course(s).

Additional Requirements at the Graduate Level:

  • MUE 612 - Philosophical Bases of Music Education, Credits: 3

  • MUE 613 - Psychology of Music Teaching and Learning, Credits: 3

  • Electives: Any MUS, MUP, or MUE 500 or 600-level courses, Credits: 12 

  • MUE 615 - Professional Portfolio, Credits: 2, OR MUE 695 Thesis, Credits: 2
