Electrical Engineering Accelerated Graduate Pathway (MS at University of Maine)

This program provides students in the Electrical Engineering major at the University of Southern Maine (USM) the opportunity for favorable admissions and dual-enrollment opportunities with the University of Maine’s Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree.

Program Requirements

In order to participate in the accelerated pathway, a USM Electrical Engineering student must:

  1. Complete the following courses by the end of junior year.
  2. Complete the internal departmental application to the Accelerated ELE option at the University of Maine in the fall or very early spring semester of 3rd year of study (deadline: February 15).
  3. If accepted to the Accelerated ELE option at UMaine, take up to 9 credits of 400/500 level USM ELE or EGN courses (3 credits of which MUST be at the 500-level). These credits will count toward both the BS and MS degrees.
  4. Complete and submit an application to the UMaine Graduate School Electrical Engineering program (deadline: April 1, 4th year of study).
  5. Once admitted to the Master’s program, develop a program of study that includes all courses counted toward the MS degree and that must be approved by the ECE Graduate Coordinator at UMaine.

Up to 6 credits of additional ELE or EGN graduate courses (500-level) can be taken at USM toward the MS degree, provided that those 6 credits do not also count toward the USM BS degree. These courses may be taken by the student at USM either before or after earning the BS degree.
