Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence (AI) Minor

The Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence minor is designed to provide undergraduate majors outside the School of Business with an opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in business analytics and artificial intelligence. The requirements for admission to the minor are completion of at least 12 credits at USM with a grade point average of 2.33 or higher.

This minor is only available to students not pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Non-School of Business students may have only one Business minor.

The Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence minor (6 credits) prepares students for a range of management analyst positions. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that management analysts have a much faster than average job outlook through 2034 with a 9% growth rate. McKinsey Global Institute reports that the United States alone faces a shortage of 140,000 to 190,000 people with deep analytical skills as well as 1.5 million managers and analysts to analyze big data and make decisions based on their findings.

Program Requirements


The Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence minor is 16 credits. A student may transfer into the Business Analytics & Artificial Intelligence minor up to six credit hours of acceptable courses. To complete the minor, students must earn at least a C- in 100/200 classes within the minor and at least a C in the 300/400 classes within the minor. Students are required to complete any prerequisites for the classes in the minor unless waived by the instructor.
