Electrical and Computer Engineering, B.S.

The electrical and computer engineering program is accredited by the EAC (Engineering Accreditation Commission) of ABET (formerly the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology).

Graduates of the program are prepared to:

  1. excel as engineers in technologically-intensive environments;
  2. succeed in post-baccalaureate and graduate studies;
  3. transfer their acquired skills to a variety of contexts and endeavors; and
  4. contribute to society as broadly educated, articulate, and ethical professionals and citizens.

Two tracks are defined within this program, namely Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. In order to graduate, students must fulfill the core requirements of the degree program, plus one of the two tracks, for a total of 128.5 credits as described in the Program Requirements. A requirement of the major may not be used to satisfy an elective of the major.

Program Requirements

Minimum number of credits required for the major: 128.5. For graduation, electrical and computer engineering majors must maintain an overall grade point average of 2.0 and a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in engineering courses.

Permission from the student’s advisor is required before taking any course outside USM to satisfy a requirement of the major. Course requirements are as follows (concurrent Core Curriculum requirements are noted in parentheses for reference).

University Core Curriculum (18-24 credits)

Engineering Requirements

Mathematics (18 credits)

Basic Science (14.5 credits)

Engineering Core (22 credits)

Technical Electives (12 credits)

Completion of four (4) engineering courses with three or more credits each at the junior or senior level (300-level or higher EGN, ELE, or MEE) that are not otherwise required in the program and track.
