Deaf Studies Minor

The Deaf Studies minor offers training in American Sign Language and knowledge of the American Deaf Community. These skills can enhance a student’s undergraduate education and may be applied to various settings such as education, human services, social work, health care, and counseling. The Deaf Studies minor also provides specific ASL skills necessary to apply to graduate programs such as Deaf Education, ASL linguistics, and rehabilitation counseling.

Program Requirements
Minimum number of credits required for the minor: 22
Note: Students majoring in Linguistics with a Concentration in ASL Linguistics may complete the Deaf Studies minor, but requirements for the minor differ to avoid too much overlap with the major. In addition to the five courses listed under “Required Coursework,” students need to take nine credits from among the following courses: ASL 415 or ASL 417 (whichever one does not count toward the major), LIN 112 , LIN 331 , LIN 401 , LIN 402 , LIN 403 , LIN 404 .
