Culturally Responsive Practices in Education and Human Development, Certificate of Graduate Study

Program Requirements (12 credits)

Students are required to select at least one School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) course from the list below to ground their understanding in pedagogical practices.

Other courses as approved by the program advisor.

Students may choose from the following USM courses. A number of courses are offered outside of the School of Education and Human Development.

• EDU 559 - Methods for Teaching Reading and Writing to Multilingual Learners
• EDU 562 - Linguistic and Cultural Diversity in the Classroom
• HCE 507 - Spirituality and Religion in Counseling
• HCE 612 - Multicultural Counseling: Social & Cultural Foundations of Helping Diverse Families
• HRD 646 - Global Perspectives of Adult Education and Practices
• HRD 699 - Independent Study in Human Resource Development (open to matriculated students only)
• SED 540 - Students with Exceptionalities in General Education

Grade Requirements

• Graduate students must receive a grade of B- or higher in all courses to be successful in Literacy Education and TESOL programs.
• If the above grade requirements are not met, students may be required to repeat the course.
• Additionally, students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.00.
